ACES:
OTA 100 Celebrations

March 2019

2018 saw the Ontario Tennis Association turn 100. That in itself is quite impressive considering that the first known courts anywhere in the province didn’t turn up until the 1870’s. Something else that is impressive is the growth that has occurred in the sport in the last century. The OTA is proud of its contributions, but we know that, it has been the combined efforts of many important builders, players, institutions, clubs and volunteers to foster the sports growth in popularity over the years. Tennis has been called the “Sport of a Lifetime”; in this case it is the “Sport of Many Lifetimes”! So… what did we get up to in ’18 to celebrate our 100th? Check out the ACES pictures below to find out!

OTA AGM: 100th Anniversary Celebrations were launched at the OTA AGM in April – Cake Anyone?

100 MOMENTS: The OTA released 100 Moments on social media beginning in April – one per day for 100 days – detailing the colorful history of Ontario’s tennis players, clubs, builders and events. To see all 100 moments, click here.

ONTENNIS SPECIAL 100th ANNIVERSARY ISSUE: Long time ONTENNIS editor dug into the archives to deliver some wonderful stories for the special 100th Anniversary of ONTENNIS magazine. Beautifully designed by the team at PIX, the special edition was a hit with players across the province. If you didn’t see it, check it out online here.

PRESIDENTS DAY AT ROGERS CUP: Over 250 Presidents guests from member clubs were treated to a surprise 100 anniversary video, a delicious breakfast, a ceremony honoring the OTA’s Past Presidents, a special appearance by Canadian tennis legend Daniel Nestor and tickets to enjoy the action!

THE TORONTO STOCK EXCHANGE: To honor the OTA on its 100th Anniversary the TSX invited the OTA board and special guests on September 11th to officially close the trading floor for the day.

THE CN TOWER AND TORONTO CITY HALL: The CN Tower and the Toronto City Hall shone the OTA colors of green and blue on August 29th.

As we enter our second century, a heartfelt thanks to all the players, volunteers, clubs and organizations that made our 100th Anniversary Celebrations so special… can’t wait to see how the next 100 unfolds!
