2017 U10 Champions

The 2017 offering of “The Champions” an Under 10 Tournament, was played at the Aviva Centre in Toronto the weekend of February 18 to 20, to coincide with the Family Day holiday.

One hundred of the best Under 10 players in the province competed, at first in round robin play, and then in elimination play, for a total of $20,000 to support their development with the professional with whom they are already training. The two champions, one boy and one girl, will each receive $6,000 worth of private coaching over a two year period, while the two finalists will receive $4,000 towards coaching over the same period.

“The Champions” is the brainchild of Murray Rubin, a life-long tennis enthusiast and member of the York Racquets Club in Toronto. Mr. Rubin and his wife Roda have donated more than $70,000 to the program since its inception in 2013. This year the OTA was pleased to welcome Forest Hill Real Estate and Scotiabank as generous supporters of the event. “Canada is on the world map now,” said David Fingold, president of Forest Hill Real Estate. “This is really the first time we’ve had players of that quality, and the young people see that. Some of them want to become the next Milos or the next Genie. It’s the same thing as when I was growing up and you wanted to be the next Frank Mahovlich or Rocket Richard.”

After three full days of competition and more than 240 matches, the final results for the Championship flight were as follows:
