The Rogers Cup returned to Toronto in 2017 with the entire top 10 WTA players in attendance. The draw contained many young talents and seasoned veterans that competed hard to raise the trophy and earn $501,975 for their effort. There was a first-time champion with some memorable moments. Former number one, Caroline Wozniacki pauses after the point to complain about the rain. She had a successful tournament by reaching the finals with her consistent, determined game.

Sloane Stephens had a breakthrough tournament at the 2017 Rogers Cup. She eventually lost to Wozniacki in the semis but next month won the 2017 US Open in New York City.

2017 French Open Champion, Jelena Ostapenko, returns serve with the ball frozen on the racquet.

Ontario native, Bianca Andreescu, made her first appearance at 17 years old. She lost to Timea Babos but gained new fans with her gritty performance.

Caroline Garcia from France unleashes her serve against Halep in the quarter-finals. Halep won 6-4, 6-2.

Simona Halep answers questions about her match and future expectations. She lost easily to Elina Svitolina in the semis 6-1,6-1.

At 37 years of age, Venus Williams battled Svitolina on every point but eventually lost. Venus had a career resurgence in 2017.

Elina Svitolina celebrates after defeating Caroline Wozniacki in the finals. Final score was 6-4,6-0. It was her first Rogers Cup tournament victory. Along the way she defeated Venus Williams, Garbine Muguruza, Simona Halep and Wozniacki to win the championship. Congrats Elina.
